Validation of the Brief Pathological Narcissism Inventory and Its Association with Cyber Intimate Partner Violence in Portuguese Emerging Adults.

Rego Mónica M, Caridade Sónia S

Cyber intimate partner violence (C-IPV) refers to abusive and controlling behaviors enacted through digital technologies toward a current or former intimate partner. Previous research suggests that pathological narcissism may be associated with C-IPV. This study examined the psychometric properties of the Brief Pathological Narcissism Inventory (B-PNI), the frequency of self-reported C-IPV perpetration and related behaviors, and the association between C-IPV perpetration and pathological narcissism among emerging adults. The sample comprised 371 participants aged 18-25 years (M = 21.52, SD = 1.97), of whom 78.7% were female. Confirmatory factor analysis provided support for the a priori two-factor model of the B-PNI (CFI = 0.982, TLI = 0.965, RMSEA = 0.076), comprising grandiose and vulnerable narcissism. The B-PNI showed satisfactory internal consistency and theoretically expected associations with psychopathological symptoms and broader personality dimensions. Overall, 79.5% of participants reported at least one C-IPV behavior, with 61.5% reporting online control, 62.0% online jealousy, and 31.5% online intrusive behaviors. C-IPV perpetration was positively and significantly associated with both grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, although the associations were small in magnitude. The findings provide preliminary support for the use of the B-PNI among Portuguese emerging adults and indicate that pathological narcissism is associated with C-IPV perpetration. Given the modest magnitude of these associations, narcissistic traits should be considered as one of multiple individual and relational factors potentially involved in C-IPV.

Increasing Language Access for Intimate Partner Violence Support Services: A Scoping Review.

Richey Ann E AE, DiMascolo Lisa D LD, Bender Anna E AE, Bhattacharya Anindita A et al.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public health concern. Survivors face numerous barriers to accessing services, particularly when services in many places are only provided in English. This scoping review aimed to identify research and practice-based articles that explore interventions to increase language accessibility to support services for IPV. Articles were identified through a systematic search of databases and selected for inclusion if they involved language accessibility for IPV support services across settings (e.g., legal services, advocacy, hotlines, social services, healthcare, law enforcement). We identified 15 research and 14 practice-based articles for inclusion. Most interventions and practices for increasing language access were in settings related to health care, advocacy and social services, or community-based organizations. Research articles described various adaptations to interventions for increasing language access, which mostly included interpretation, translation, bilingual assistance, and culturally tailored programs. All research articles had language access adaptations for their intervention, but only 60% of the research articles included specific findings related to language access and culture. Practice-based articles discussed guidance around the development, assessment, and evaluation of a language access plan, language access engagement and implementation, and different elements and settings for language access. Findings highlight the intersection between language and culture, underscoring the need to address these interconnected aspects beyond simple translation and interpretation. IPV support services should hire multilingual and multicultural staff and address fear around immigration status. Increased funding is needed to ensure higher quality language access supports are implemented. Additional implications for research, practice, and policy are discussed.

In vitro bioactivity profile-driven discovery of drug synergies in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Xu Tuan T, Xu Miao M, Ngan Deborah K DK, Zhao Tongan T et al.

Combination therapy is a central strategy to overcome drug resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), yet systematic identification of synergistic combinations is constrained by the combinatorial search space. We developed a data-driven workflow to integrate two orthogonal single-agent resources for 244 drugs, including cell viability profiles across 11 liver cancer cell lines and bioactivity signatures across 1,925 biochemical and cell-based assays. We calculated the correlation of the bioactivity profiles between each drug pair yielding 821 high-confidence combinations involving 190 unique drugs, from which eight anchors and a 125-drug library were selected by frequency-guided prioritization. Fixed-concentration screening of 992 anchor-library combinations in the Hep 3B2.1-7 cell line yielded 89 combinations with potency enhancement. Panobinostat showed the largest potency gains when combined with briciclib or thiocolchicine (69.5-fold and 81.1-fold lower IC₅₀, respectively). Matrix-based screening of these two representative combinations across 11 cell lines revealed pronounced concentration- and context-dependence. At optimal dose pairs, strong synergy was observed in Hep 3B2.1-7 (Zero Interaction Potency (ZIP) = 40.80 ± 4.22 with 58.53 ± 6.54% inhibition), whereas antagonism was observed in some cellular backgrounds. This label-free integration strategy reduces the experimental burden for hypothesis-driven combination discovery and provides context-specific preclinical leads for follow-up evaluation in HCC.

Tetanus in Serbia, 2015-2025: Epidemiological Overview and Lessons from Two Pediatric Cases.

Kovacevic Gordana G, Stijovic Vesna V, Kovacevic Branko B, Parezanovic Miro M et al.

Tetanus is a vaccine-preventable disease that has become rare in countries with sustained immunization programs. However, unvaccinated children remain at risk of severe disease. We provide an epidemiological overview of tetanus in Serbia and describe two cases of generalized tetanus in children. We retrospectively reviewed tetanus surveillance data and immunization coverage reports in Serbia for 2015-2025. Tetanus cases were recorded under ICD-10 code A35. We analyzed demographics, incidence, outcomes, case-fatality, and tetanus-containing vaccine coverage. Two pediatric cases were reviewed for clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, management, and outcomes. Fourteen tetanus cases were reported during 2015-2025 (annual incidence, 0-0.06 per 100,000 population), including two children. Most cases occurred among women aged >60 years; the overall case-fatality proportion was 42.9%. Primary vaccination coverage ranged from 90.8% to 95.1%, while recommended revaccination coverage remained below the 95% target. Both pediatric patients had received only BCG and hepatitis B vaccination at birth with no subsequent routine immunization due to parental neglect or refusal. The 18-month-old boy presented with fever, otorrhea, and recurrent episodes of generalized stiffening and was initially evaluated for meningoencephalitis. The emergence of trismus, opisthotonus, and neck muscle rigidity led to the diagnosis of tetanus. The 6-year-old boy presented with odynophagia and involuntary tongue biting, followed by progressive trismus and limb spasms. Tetanus was suspected based on the clinical findings and absent immunization. He developed respiratory failure and autonomic instability. Both patients recovered following tetanus immunoglobulin, antimicrobial therapy, and supportive care. Although tetanus remains rare in Serbia and predominantly affects older adults, unvaccinated children remain at risk of severe disease. Atypical presentations may delay diagnosis, emphasizing the importance of early recognition and timely treatment. Maintaining high vaccination coverage and ensuring catch-up immunization remain essential for prevention.

First mRNA Cancer Vaccine Succeeds in Phase III Trial.

Adding the mRNA-based individualized neoantigen vaccine intismeran autogene to the PD-1 inhibitor pembrolizumab following surgery for melanoma reduced the risk of disease recurrence or death by 42%, according to the results of the phase III INTerpath-0001 trial. The data were presented at the ESMO Congress 2026, held October 23-27, in Madrid, Spain.
