Compassion and Self-Compassion in Relation to Nursing Students' Attitudes Toward Artificial Intelligence.

To examine the relationships between compassion, self-compassion and nursing students' attitudes toward artificial intelligence. A descriptive cross-sectional study. Data were collected between April and December 2025 from undergraduate nursing students enrolled at a public university. A total of 377 students participated. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Compassion Scale, the Self-Compassion Scale and the General Attitudes toward Artificial Intelligence Scale. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and PROCESS-based mediation analysis. The study was reported in accordance with STROBE guidelines. Compassion showed a small but statistically significant positive correlation with the positive attitudes subscale and a similarly small positive correlation with the reverse-scored negative attitudes subscale of the GAAIS. Because higher scores on the reverse-scored negative attitudes subscale indicate less negative and more accepting attitudes toward artificial intelligence, this finding suggests that higher compassion was associated with both more positive and less negative attitudes toward artificial intelligence. Both associations reflected a limited amount of shared variance. Compassion may influence how nursing students interpret and evaluate artificial intelligence, whereas self-compassion does not appear to have a direct role. These findings indicate that attitudes toward artificial intelligence in nursing education may not be explained solely by cognitive factors and highlight the relevance of affective characteristics. Educational approaches that integrate technological competencies with attention to emotional, ethical and relational aspects of care may support the development of balanced and patient-centred perspectives on artificial intelligence. This study highlights the role of compassion as an affective factor shaping attitudes toward artificial intelligence among nursing students, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of technology acceptance in nursing education. Dental age estimation in forensic odontology: a systematic review comparing traditional methods and artificial intelligence approaches.

Dental age estimation is a fundamental tool in forensic odontology, with important applications in human identification and legal contexts. This systematic review evaluated the accuracy, objectivity, and reproducibility of traditional dental age estimation methods compared with artificial intelligence-based approaches. A search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science including studies published between 2015 and 2025, selecting 16 studies that analysed traditional methods, machine learning, and deep learning models. Artificial intelligence-based approaches, particularly machine learning and deep learning, demonstrated higher accuracy with lower mean absolute error (MAE) values compared with traditional methods such as Demirjian, Cameriere, and Kvaal. In addition, these models reduced intra- and inter-observer variability, improving objectivity and reproducibility. Despite these promising results, methodological heterogeneity and the need for large, well-structured datasets remain important limitations. Artificial intelligence represents a valuable and promising tool for improving dental age estimation in forensic practice.

Enlarged facial pores are associated with skin barrier impairment and microbiome dysbiosis in young Chinese women.

Enlarged facial pores represent a prominent and widely concerning skin condition, as well as a challenging issue in skin care. The unique structure of pores provides a favourable habitat for microorganisms. Consequently, it is of great significance to explore the relationship between pore size, skin microbiota and their microenvironment. This study is the first to investigate the correlations between pore area, skin physiological and microbiota characteristics, providing a theoretical basis for the care of skin with enlarged pores. Based on VISIA CR photographs, 199 women aged 18-35 years living in Shanghai were enrolled and categorized into four groups (P1, P2, P3 and P4) according to pore area, ranging from the smallest (P1) to the largest (P4). Non-invasive biophysical techniques and 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing were employed to analyse facial skin physiological parameters and skin microbiome, respectively. As facial pore size increased, trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), haemoglobin and melanin levels increased significantly, whereas skin elasticity decreased. Sebum exhibited an increasing trend, with the P4 group showing significantly higher sebum than the P2 group. Alpha diversity, as assessed by the Shannon index, decreased significantly as pore size increased, suggesting that enlarged pores may be closely associated with skin microbiome dysbiosis. Furthermore, with increasing pore size, the abundance of Cutibacterium increased significantly, whereas those of Pseudomonas, Streptococcus and Rhodococcus decreased. Correlation analysis of skin physiological parameters revealed that sebum was positively associated with TEWL, haemoglobin, and a value. Meanwhile, the abundance of Cutibacterium was significantly positively correlated with sebum, haemoglobin and a value. Correlation network analysis of skin microbial communities indicated significantly different correlation patterns for P1 and P4. Collectively, these findings suggest that sebum and Cutibacterium abundance play critical roles in regulating pore size. Enlarged pores were associated with excessive sebum production, reduced skin elasticity and increased TEWL, indicative of compromised skin barrier function. Furthermore, pore size significantly modulated the structure of the local skin microbiome, as regions with different pore sizes exhibited marked disparities in microbial diversity and abundance. These findings highlight the potential role of skin microbiome dysbiosis in the pathogenesis of pore enlargement.

Environmental and lifestyle determinants of skin ageing: Association between skin dryness and dyspigmentation in Chinese women.

To evaluate and classify the effects of seasonal and environmental variations on skin ageing features-specifically pigmentation disorders and dryness-in vivo in an Asian female population. The skin characteristics of 200 Chinese women aged 20-70 years, residing in rural (YiXing) and urban (Shanghai) areas, were assessed during two representative seasons-late winter (March) and early summer (June)-to explore the relationship between seasonal or environmental variations and skin ageing manifestations. Phototype was classified using the Fitzpatrick Scale; dyspigmentation was rated with a six-grade photographic scale; and dryness was evaluated using both self-reported and expert-administered questionnaires. Statistical analyses examined associations between dyspigmentation and dryness, stratified by locality and season. Dyspigmentation and skin dryness were significantly more prevalent among rural participants in both March and June. Skin dryness was more marked in winter, suggesting a relatively short-term (from daily to monthly) evolution due to external conditions such as cold weather. On the opposite, dyspigmentation showed little seasonal variation-a pattern more consistent with a dependence on cumulative exposure rather than on short-term seasonal changes. A statistically significant correlation was observed between skin dryness and dyspigmentation across localities and seasons. This study identifies a significant correlation between skin dryness and dyspigmentation in Chinese women, consistent across localities and seasons. Both parameters were also influenced by seasonal and lifestyle factors, supporting their potential as morphological markers of the exposome's impact on skin health and ageing in both rural and urban settings. Further research, including in vitro models, is needed to elucidate the mechanisms potentially linking skin dryness and dyspigmentation.
